DAVID RICHTER
Executive Vice President, Business and Legal Affairs, and General Counsel, DivX, Inc.
David Richter oversees the following DivX groups: legal, business and corporate development, and consumer
software and services. Before joining DivX in 2004, he was a principal at Maveron, a venture capital firm
co-founded by Howard Schultz of Starbucks that is focused on consumer-oriented startups. Earlier Mr. Richter
directed business development at drugstore.com and was in private law practice in Los Angeles. Still earlier
in his career, he clerked for Judge Goodwin of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and was a
Luce scholar in China, where he taught intellectual property law at China University of Politics and Law, and
consulted for CITIC, the Chinese government’s investment bank. Mr. Richter has a bachelor’s degree from
Cornell University and a law degree from Yale Law School.
GORDON RITTER
Founder and General Partner, Emergence Capital Partners
Gordon Ritter has spent more than 15 years building companies that pioneered new markets, including
embedded web-based interfaces, server appliances, “On Demand” services for the SMB market, and web-native application development. He led Emergence Capital’s first investment, in the On Demand leader
Salesforce.com. Mr. Ritter was named one of the top venture capital investors in 2007. He currently sits on
the boards of Genius, Ketera, Lithium, PivotLink, Veeva Systems, and Zuberance. Before founding Emergence,
he was co-founder and CEO of Software As Service, a web services platform company he created with Marc
Benioff. Before forming Software As Service, he was vice president of the $3 billion IBM Global Small Business
Division, created as a result of IBM’s acquisition of his company, Whistle Communications, in 1999. Before
founding Whistle, Mr. Ritter was co-founder and president of Tribe Communications and vice president,
capital markets, at CSFB in New York.
MARY RITTI
Managing Director, Technology Practice, San Francisco, Burson-Marsteller
Mary Ritti helps technology companies differentiate their brands and products by developing innovative
communications programs to reach consumers and businesses. From experience with leading brands including
Intel, HP, and Nokia, she delivers strong working knowledge in corporate communications, social responsibility,
media relations, and product public relations. Her career has spanned the technology market, ranging from
semiconductors and servers to mobile e-mail and digital entertainment. As a client leader for Intel, Ms. Ritti
oversees Burson-Marsteller teams for the Intel Digital Enterprise and Corporate Social Responsibility groups.
She guides strategies and programs for media relations, digital outreach, competitive positioning, and
corporate reputation. She previously worked on the HP account; her other clients have included Symbian, the
smartphone operating system, and the 3LCD TV alliance. Before joining Burson-Marsteller, Ms. Ritti was the
worldwide public relations manager at Supportsoft, where she was responsible for public relations activities
globally and provided strategic counsel for business and marketing plans. She also previously served
Golin/Harris and Copithorne & Bellows.
JANICE ROBERTS
Managing Director, Mayfield Fund
Janice Roberts is a global communications executive and entrepreneur. She invests in networking components
and systems, mobile communications, and consumer-oriented companies. Before joining Mayfield, Ms. Roberts
built a successful early-stage investment portfolio as president of 3Com Ventures. She also led 3Com’s global
marketing and business development operation and ran a number of the company’s new business initiatives,
including the highly successful Palm Computing subsidiary. Previously, Ms. Roberts was managing director
and president of BICC Data Networks Ltd., which was acquired by 3Com in 1992. Ms. Roberts holds an honors
degree in commerce (economics and finance) from the University of Birmingham in the U.K. She serves on the
advisory board of the INSEAD Business School U.S. Council and supports the Entrepreneurs Foundation and the
Forum for Women Entrepreneurs.
